[imp] "Old" IMP fails to login via IMAP .. ?

What could be a reason where the currently stable release of IMP fails to login,
but the new (HEAD) works? Authentication is IMAP.. we've just put an updated
server on-line, and this has me baffled.. ?

I've checked parameters, etc.. they haven't changed.. nor has the names of the
various machines.. nor has the IP-addresses.. etc.
