I did this for a client. Users where authenticated via HTTP Basic; I
have a mod_perl module that extract the user's credentials then send
back an already-filled login form that auto-submit. Bingo. That would
be redundant if you are using HEAD though, as there is an HTTP Basic
authentication driver now.
