I just felt the desire to throw my two cents into the discussion.

I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment. On my computers at home (both dual
boot Windows for the kids games, and Linux for everything else), I used to use
Sylpheed for my email (for the speed), and my wife uses Mozilla. Since I've
started using a PHP accelerator, I've found that speed isn't an issue so
stopped using Sylpheed; I use IMP exclusively.

The real benefit to me is illustrated when my experience is compared with my
wife's. If one of the computers was booted to Windows for the kids to use, she
has to reboot to Linux in order to have her address book and existing mail
under Mozilla. Also, if one of the kids is playing on "her" computer, she
can't check her mail using mine (again, her email and address book are on her
computer). I can go to any computer in the house (or outside the house, for
that matter), booted into any operating system, and check my email with a full
featured mail client, having my address book, calendar, etc.

Ahh, the freedom...

I *almost* have her convinced to copy all of her address book entries
over from
Mozilla to Turba, and use IMP exclusively. Almost (she's stubborn :-)
