Well, I was almost right. That fixed it, in combination with increasing the
per-process memory max in PHP.INI and resetting the shared memory size for PH
PHPa. I changed them from 8 to 16 and 16 to 12, respectively.  Thanks to Nick
Lindridge at ioncube.com for the info on the PHP per-process setting.
