[imp] Folders going in server root?

This seems to be worse than I expected.  I was logged in to imp and tried
to create a folder called "abcabc" and here is what ended up in server
root...

/.abcabc
/.abcabc/tmp
/.abcabc/new
/.abcabc/cur
/.abcabc/maildirfolder
/.abcabc/courierimapacl

It looks as if mail for a while new user was created.  Or am I reading
this wrong?
