[imp] Problems with UTF-8 and Solaris

Running horde-3.0.2/imp-h3-4.0.1 on Solaris 8 with WU-IMAP-2004a, Mysql-4.1.7,
php-4.3.10 and apache_1.3.33.

Most mail messages open within a few seconds, but some take one or two minutes
to open.  These messages display this before the body of the email: 

"This message was written in a character set (UTF-8) other than your own.
If it is not displayed correctly, click here to open it in a new window."


Compiled PHP with --with-iconv --enable-mbstring --with-mbstring=all,
gettext and libiconv are installed.

Do I need to do anything else so support UTF-8 in Solaris? 

Also compiled PHP without "--with-iconv --enable-mbstring --with-mbstring=all"
still had the same problem, which was odd.
