Hmmm... 3.0.4-RC1 doesn't fix our issue.

Our problem must not be the same as yours then. I just assumed it
would be related because we both got the same error on the same _type_
of situation (granted, on different lines in contents.php, but the
same php error).

My mistake. Back to the ole drawing board.
