[imp] UNIX sockets / wrong sender address

I don't know of any mail server that supports that, and at least 
PHP/c-client definitely doesn't support it.

Because POP3 server are for retrieving mails, not sending mails.

Well, you told IMP to append @domain.tld to the username:
