[imp] imp failing IMAP login (tho passes tests & horde auth ok)

Can anyone suggest why IMP fails to login to my IMAP server (Mercury32)
and remote POP3 servers, even tho it passes the tests and horde login
via IMAP auth works fine?

I know I've been pleading here to the point of being annoying, but this
is very frustrating. I've been running a horde system for almost 3
years, yet have been unable to use IMP for 4-5 months due to this IMP
login problem. So far all logs, errors, and debugs suggests (??)that IMP
is simply not passing the password properly. I know this can't be true
;) so I'd very much appreciate suggestions on where to look next.

TIA
Jaz
