Couple of things, as you may know you can check your current value for 
your maximum memory allowed for a script by executing the function

<?php

phpinfo();

?>

Your FTP limits are different than your memory, make sure that your FTP 
limits are set at the appropriate level.  As you probably know as well, 
you must restart your apache web server to have php read and parse the 
new config.
