Why so?

Why?  If you changed the meaning or syntax of the sentence (and why else
would it be an issue), then you would have to change all the 30+ translations
anyway. If you simply fix a typo or something, then the "fuzzy" translation
will probably take care of it without any other changes to translations.
So you don't really gain or lose anything...

And you can create an English translation to override the msgid as the
English text, so no lose there either.

Perhaps it lacks some elegance, but it isn't really nuts...
