So do I.  And it works fine for me.

This is completely irrelevant when discussing IMP though - dovecot  
(should) hides the details of the local mailstore from an IMAP client.

Again, this is irrelevant.  IMAP is completely mailstore independent.

At a minimum, you will have to provide IMAP debug logs of your session  
to prove that it is a problem with IMP.  Because everything works fine
