[kronolith] libmcal+php compile problem,help !

Compiled libmcal cvs as kronolith/docs/INSTALL indicate.
Compile libmcal into php 4.1.2
with configuration :
./configure --with-zlib --with-mcrypt=/usr/local --with-mm --with-mcal=/usr/loca
l/mcal --with-ldap=/usr --with-gettext --enable-ftp --with-db3=/usr/lib --with-
apache=../apache_1.3.20

...............
checking for MCAL support... yes
configure: error: Unable to locate your libmcal library files - libmcal.a

I checked libmcal.a,libmcal.so was left at /usr/local/lib and mcal.h 
at /usr/local/mcal

why ?
