It could, but then how to remove the forward? In the case of vacation, it
is a bit easier than the general case for the forwards module. We kind of
know what the vacation line will look like, and we could add a comment or
something to remove any doubt left. This is something I'm willing to look
at for the future, but I've not had time yet.
For the forwards module, it is much harder. We really don't know what the
module put in there, what the user put in there, what another module put
in there, what the sysadmin put in there, etc. So adding/removing is very
complex.
To solve these complexities, we simply nuke the file (delete it to remove
the forward/vacation, overwrite it to install the forward/vacation).
Again, I'm actually looking at trying to do something intelligent here
in the future, but no ETA yet, and I wouldn't hold your breath...
