If it isn't the memory, this can be caused by a change of order in  
etc/php/extentions.ini during upgrades.  I have a script from the  
FreeBSD lists that will reorder them that always works for me on  
freebsd and I see no reason why it wouldn't work on Linux but on  
windows it wouldn't run.
