Except that it's not updating the Horde address book (and I accept this may not be Horde's problem).  It means I end up with entries like this

			 	ALAN SISK	ALAN	SISK	 	+19174469952
			 	ALAN SISK	ALAN	SISK	 	+1-917-446-9952

The first one is the original one.  As you can see, it hasn't update the entry, it's duplicated it.  All I'm requesting is that the sync code see those two numbers as being the same (i.e. to discard/ignore ascii characters in a telephone number other than the/any leading +

We would :)  But not from me.  Trust me, there is no one in this world who wants my code anywhere near something as pretty and functional as Horde.
