I assumed that Outlook's interaction with the LDAP server as described there
would be the same for any server, so you could see what attributes Outlook
expects to find.  However, I guess there's nothing there about the query it
submits to the server.  

For what it's worth, when Outlook 2000 (Internet Mail Only version) queries our
internal LDAP server, it uses this filter: 

    (|(mail=xyz*)(|(cn=xyz*)(|(sn=xyz*)(givenName=xyz*))))

That's from our LDAP log.  I haven't actually watched the interaction at the
packet level.
