[turba] extended characters in LDAP?

Hi,

In search results, Turba displays extended characters in names in my LDAP directory as weird 2-character sequences. For example, (lowercase "a"-umlaut) becomes (uppercase A-tilde, currency sign). Am I doing something wrong when importing these names into LDAP (via perl and Net::LDAP)?

It's notable that the SkyrixGreen address book on the same server, working from the same LDAP source, seems to handle these names perfectly.
