Yes, but its cumbersome, especially if your search results are wider than the
scope of results you want but there's no easy way to get precise results with
your search filter.  On the heels of the completion of 1561, I was going to
file an enhancement request for similar functionality of the mini-addressbook
in IMP's compose screen, to generate contact lists.  You can do searches, copy
the results you want over to the right-hand side and search again, and 
build an
over all result list (i.e. contact list) with multiple searches and then save
as a contact list in your local addressbook.

Yes, buts its a major source of confusion to our end-users.  Users who 
are used
to picking and choosing addresses from a list have a difficult time grasping
the idea of merging search results in the current format.  But they understand
a search results on left side, click to move to right side approach, as
described above.
