[turba] Title

Hi,

to finish the setup scripts and new default address book scheme, I
tried to find out how to use titles. What are titles? That's exactly
the problem, if you look at 100 application you have 100 different
meanings. Here's a small summary:

*Turba* used to have only one field. Since the field name is
ambiguous, English users were happy because they could use it for
whatever they wanted. In German for example, there are (at least) two
different translations: "Titel" as in Dr., MD, etc. and "Position"
which means job title.

The *vCard* RFC has "honorific prefixes" as in "Dr." and suffixes as
in "Jr.", "titles" as in job title ("Manager") and "role" as in
profession ("Programmer").

Similar with *Kolab* which has "prefix", "suffix", "job-title", and
"profession".

*Outlook* has "title" which is "Dr.", "Mrs." etc, "suffix" ("MD" etc)
and "job title".

*Thunderbird* only has a job title.

*Kontact* has "title" (probably Dr., Mrs.), "honoric suffixes" and "role".

When converting between Turba (1.2) and vCard we map from title to
title and salutation to prefix. Any other vCard fields are being
ignored.

Turba 1.2 is supposed to add the columns object_nameprefix and
object_role, but the latter is not yet mapped to any field in
attributes.php or sources.php. It also adds two fields with the label
"Salutation" which doesn't make much sense to me: "name_prefix" which
is a select field with "Mrs", "Dr." etc, and "salutation", a free text
field.

Confused? Me too.

So, what do we do? Which fields do we want to support and with which meaning?

Jan.
