From our real-life use of Horde in our organization (and potential uses in our
organization), and from our offering it as a service to school
districts, those
three portal modes would be dynamite, and are ultimiately what we are seeking,
because we have users that fit into each of the three modes.
Horde becomes an application specific framework (no portal, i.e. just
webmail),
a generalized web-based supplementary application (mobile or remote users -
Horde install with slim portal, providing out-of-office functionality for
in-house systems), or a full-blown web application, that integrates
potentially
multiple disparate systems, even better than it currently does.
You can do the first and the second right now, with some customization. The
latter relies on that tighter integration and coupling of applications
that was
alluded to in the SOC suggested project.
Couple that with a consistent user interface, across all applications, and you
are doing things on the web, using standards, that couldn't be done before.
