You are right, I am using xcache that doesn't have upload hooks and the pecl 
upload_progress extension doesn't work for no my laptop neither on my server 
so I stuck with this.

Yes the flv convertion can take some time, but this will be the same with any 
format we choose. I added a script to my crontab so every 3 minutes checks 
and converts uploaded videos the editor just approves or deletes the video. 
The progress script (available with Oscar) supports step by step convention 
so you can test every conversion step alone.
