[horde] Error 1045 access denied for root@localhost

I'm following Henry Chen's installation instructions for qmail with IMP.
http://www.sxpress.com/~henry/qmail-pop-imap-web-howto-7.3.htm I've run
into a snag with MySQL.  I get the following error:
 
#mysql -p < /var/www/html/horde/scripts/db/mysql_create.sql
Enter Password: *********
ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root at localhost' (Using Password:
YES)
#
 
I know I'm using the correct password.  Any thoughts?
