Why   do   you   insist  compiling  PHP  yourself?  CentOS  is  binary
distribution  where  everything  is already compiled. You only need to
install them with the help of yum.

This  is  really  not a Horde related question. And you even don't get
support on CentOS lists for your problem also. Maybe try some kind of PHP list.
