  this howto suggest wrong things. NEVER edit horde/conf.php. instead
  create horde/conf.local.php

  Unable to pecl install sasl
  who said you need it? the howto?

  unable to pecl install  lz4 (pecl install says there is no package lz4)
  lz4 is optional

  localhost/horde redirects to horde.com with blank page
  maybe an php error. inspect webserver logs

  localhost/test.php is loading with list of missing modules like PAM lzf 
lz4
... and the descriptive text "if $foo is available" ...

  When i try to pecl install lzf and pam it says already installed
horde may run also wihtout them, you may uninstall them

  How to figure out the issue or is there any installation instruction
  available. Can any one help

I have followed your instruction for installation, now i am getting the 
following error

A fatal error has occurred
Session cookies will not work without a FQDN and with a non-empty cookie 
domain. Either use a fully qualified domain name like 
"http://www.example.com" instead of "http://example" only, or set the 
cookie domain in the Horde configuration to an empty value, or enable 
non-cookie (url-based) sessions in the Horde configuration.


Since i am testing before making live setup ,i have configured my host 
name in hosts file as .loc and able to ping with .loc domain name and 
the same i have mentioned in con.php as follows

$conf['server']['name'] = $_SERVER['example.loc'];
$conf['cookie']['domain'] = $_SERVER['example.loc'];

where am i making mistake pl help
