And in the end, it appears that's the problem. Mark Crispin (Mr. IMAP) says 
that the argument of SEARCH is not required to be quoted, and that Courier 
IMAP simply handles this wrongly. I don't see where in the RFC it says 
that, but since Mark wrote the RFC, he knows better than I do.

So, in the end, filters and searching simply won't work right with Courier 
in these cases.
