They are IMAP wildcards - it's not Courier-specific at all. * means to match
everything; % means to match everything on the same level (so, * gets you all
mailboxes; % gets you all top-level mailboxes; i* gets you everything (including
subfolders) that starts with an i; INBOX.% gets you every mailbox under INBOX,
but not any subfolders; etc).
