[imp] Language setting

Environment: Slakware Linux 8.0/PHP4.0.6+PEAR-4.1.0/Horde-2.0+IMP-3.0

I did everything po/README says. And also followed the troubleshooting and it
failedcat step "Does gettext even work?":

#ls -l /usr/share/locale/pt_BR/LC_MESSAGES/grep.mo
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root         6929 Apr 25  2000 \
        /usr/share/locale/pt_BR/LC_MESSAGES/grep.mo

#export TEXTDOMAINDIR=/usr/share/locale/

# (LANG=pt_BR; gettext grep  "Memory exhausted" )
Memory exhausted  >>> (should be "Memoria esgotada". It is in grep.mo.)

# (LANGUAGE=pt_BR; gettext  grep  "Memory exhausted" )
Memory exhausted

I have no idea what is going on? Any FAQ?
