Most likely because in 99.9% of the cases, the date field will correspond 
to when you receive the messages.  It is only when there is some kind of 
slow mail transport or (possibly) a spoofed or faulty mail agent sending 
out wrong dates that this would make a difference.

I tried the two different sorts in my Spam folder and the results were 
different.
