I'm doing exactly the same thing.  I was working on getting an IMP 3.0 
install ready for production use and managed to drag it out long enough 
for RC to turn into 3.1.  I have two installations sharing a single mysql 
db, and each on it's own virtual server, so I can test things in IMP 3.0 
and 3.1 just by changing the URL in my browser.  I'm going to replace a 
2.2.x system friday with the 3.1 install.
