[imp] imp & Session expired

Hi,

I have tried everything to solve this, so I am asking the mailing list as
a last resort. I run a small semi-public server, and have wanted to have
reasonable web-mail for my users. IMP seemed like a much beter solution
than SquirrelMail and some others I have tried, and the calendar in horde
is a nice bonus.

System info:
Apple Mac g3 blue/white 350MHz
192MB ram
IDE and SCSI storage
Debian/Linux Woody (Stable)
Apache 1.3.x from debian
php4

I have tried both the IMP from debian (out of date), and the latest IMP
from the horde.org web-site.

When I try to log into hord or IMP, I get "session timed out".

I am using IMAP for authentication, and this works with the IMP test (and
with various IMAP mail clients).

the setting for the php's tmp folder in the php.ini (under /etc) was
/tmp. I also changed the horde.conf to point it to /tmp/horde (which I
created and made and writable owned by WWW-data)

I was getting errors like "Error creating session data file
0/sess_2756765...", which I figured out meant instead of trying to use
"/tmp", it was trying to use "0/". I have no idea why this is, but I made
a sym-link and fixed this problem. Later when I changed the /tmp to
/tmp/horde, I had to adjust this sym link.

Now it doesn't complain (in the test.php), but upon re-loading, the
session number never increments. It also isn't possible to log-into IMP
or Horde (I set up horde to use IMAP Authentication), as it always returns
a "Session Expired" error.

I looked around for similar errors, but I tried all of the documented
solutions, and none of them worked for me so far.

I would be interested in knowing what I am doing wrong.

I updated my horde to the latest snapshot a few days ago, with no change
in behavior.

I would appreciate any advice.

thanks,
    noah silva
