Several people, including myself have seen this behavior.  This has to do with 
a bug in IE when you attach documents to the e-mail *and* paste text from 
Microsoft products.  I've used a packet sniffer and watched what is sent to 
the server.  IE actually sends corrupted data.  Mozilla has no problem with 
this.  

The only fix for this is to fix IMP so that it converts certain characters 
into their corresponding "safe version".  Someone posted a patch which worked, 
but it wasn't really the right way to do it.  I think it would be a pretty 
easy thing to do (i just haven't gotten a chance to do it)

not sure about your other problems though....
