[imp] Migrating system?

I have an "old" system with IMP 3.2 and other components of that age.

I am planning to upgrade to CVS, but I wonder what the easiest way is if I
do not want much downtime.

I was thinking about setting up a parallel installation (in a different
database), and get everything working, and then migrate settings. 

The problem is: I do not know how to migrate settings for the various
modules. Are the databases compatible so I can just copy the tables?
