Okay, I understand what you want now.  It seems reasonable to do what
you want...  Not using Thunderbird et al, and with the limited description
you gave in your initial posting, I didn't know what you wanted exactly.

Okay.  I wasn't sure what you did want, or why you wanted it.  Now that I
understand what you want, it seems like a reasonable request.  I'm not
sure I would use it, but I can see where others might want to use such
a feature.

They are more to make an imap connection emulate a pop3 connection.
It's always been a bit of a kludge to quiet a lot of complaints...
They're more cosmetic than anything useful.  The virtual folders,
search, and your proposal are more functional than cosmetic.
