Removing /dev/null has been on my internal todo list for a while, though I
really had no idea what to do instead, but there are many options...

The new thread implies that maybe providing default files in the distribution
is the way to go. It would just copy the appropriate file then. In this
case it should work on any platform as long as there is an appropriate file
provided. No no /dev/null, no touch, just some files to copy...

"TAD (Technology Attachment Disorder) is an unshakable, impractical devotion
to a brand, platform, product line, or programming language. It's relatively
harmless among the rank and file, but when management is afflicted the damage
can be measured in dollars. It's also contagious -- someone with sufficient
political clout can infect an entire organization."
