Those all point to passwd not knowing what backend to use.  My first guess
is a problem in your config files.  If you have a stand-alone php program
install and available, try to lint the config files with:

php -l conf.php
php -l backends.php

If it doesn't report any problems (either to the screen or to the system
log files) then I would say make sure you comment out or delete any unused
backend entries in backends.php (if you haven't already).

Do you have a backend list displayed, or hidden?  Showing the contents of
conf.php along with backends.php may help better diagnose any problems...
