More than likely, the turba code is fine--put back what you commented out.  
What does your test.php look like?  Also, what version are you running
(php/turba/horde)?  My guess is that something is wrong in your config.  I'm 
running both the latest released version and the latest CVS version without 
any problems(as well as many others).  Somebody will know the answer on this 
mailing list.  Oh, and welcome to horde.
